HT550 2024 - Follow the race

HT550 2024 - Follow the race

This weekend marks the beginning of The now legendary Highland Trail 550, a self-supported mountain bikepacking adventure stretching 550 miles (885 km) through the wild and remote Scottish Highlands, with a reputation for being one of the toughest bikepacking races on the planet. With no markers to guide them, riders must rely on a GPS device and their own instincts for navigation. The journey promises breathtaking landscapes, tough climbs, and unpredictable weather.

Riders will traverse remote villages and must carry all their own food and equipment. The Highland Trail 550 is renowned as one of the toughest bikepacking routes globally, demanding resilience and determination, often requiring riders to hike their bikes over challenging terrain.

We would also like to encourage you to make a donation towards planting some trees in the "Trees for Life" Highland Trail 550 grove. This can be done via the link: treesforlife.org.uk/groves/490177/

In this year's race, we have two riders who will be using Restrap kit in the field, who will be challenging the field at the front of the pack:

Kerry Macphee

Riding - Genesis Mantle

@kerrymacphee

A former Commonwealth Games cyclist and professional mountain biker, Kerry has turned her experienced hand towards endurance racing. Based in Scotland, Kerry will be riding familiar terrain for her first time on HT550. She has FKTs for both the Badger Divide and the Lomond Trossachs Loop, and is no stranger to pushing hard on tough, technical trails.

Kerry will be using Race Bar Bag, Race Saddle Bag and a Small Frame Bag to carry everything she needs during the race, along with Stem Bags to carry fuel for the ride. She'll be carrying water and food in the Race Hydration Vest, and will of course, be using the Hike a Bike Harness for those long boggy sections.

Thomas Boury

Riding - Epsilon Mountain Bike

@totosupertramp

Thomas's relentless pursuit of challenges is evident in his conquest of mountainous off-road Fastest Known Times (FKTs) and participation in gruelling races like the Atlas Mountain Race, Hope 1000, Further Pyrenees, and numerous others. Fresh off Trakka, Thomas has his sights firmly set of this year's HT550 as part of his 2024 calendar, and will be giving it his all.

Thomas will be running a fairly compact setup, with a Custom Frame Bag in the middle, canister bag up front and tool pouch on the rear. He'll be carrying food and lightweight sleeping kit in his Race Hydration Vest, and will also be using the hike a bike harness.
